19TH-CENTURY PHOTOGRAPHS – OSSAU VALLEY – PYRENEES – TRADITIONAL COSTUMES & TRADES. EIGHT ORIGINAL VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPHS attributed to the painter/photographer ROMAN BENDOWSKI of PAU – Prints on paper from a glass negative, some of which have been enhanced with coloured watercolour. Photographs mounted on ‘visiting card’ size card (approximately 10.5 x 6.3 cm). Photographs of local men and women (traditional dress from Aste Béon / Pau / water-carrier / farmer’s wife / small trades / shepherd and Pyrenean dog...). The 8 photographs are housed in a lovely little silk pouch with a watercolour design of flowers and a dragonfly on the front, dated 14 May 1889 – Photographs inscribed “from her Uncle Achille to my lovely little Marie Louise” – Truly beautiful pieces by this talented photographer from the height of the Pyrenean era.
