ADOLPHE THIERS ( * ) – FIVE PHOTOGRAPHS, circa 1860–1870, bromide prints mounted on card, visiting-card size (approx. 10.5 x 6 cm): - by NADAR: three-quarter front view of the bust, red-framed card, signed ‘N’ in the bottom right-hand corner – on the reverse, the inscription ‘photographie du grand hôtel’, signed by Nadar and bearing the address 35 Boulevard des Capucines. - by E. APPERT “photographer to the Legislative Assembly, Her Majesty the Queen of Spain, His Majesty Grand Duke Constantine, the judiciary, and expert at the Court of the Seine” in Paris. View, around the council table, of members of the 1872 cabinet chaired by Mr Thiers at Versailles. With the ministers’ names in the caption. - DISDERI: 2 photographs, one of Thiers seated, the other of Thiers standing facing the camera. - PIERRE PETIT: frontal bust within an oval. ( * ) THIERS 1797 / 1877 – born in Marseille, died in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Lawyer, journalist, historian and statesman. President of the French Republic from 31 August 1871 to 24 May 1873, head of the executive from 17 February to 31 August 1871, Member of Parliament for the Seine for four terms, and minister on numerous occasions (Foreign Affairs, the Interior, Trade…), member of the Académie Française from 1833 to 1877. Arriving in Paris at the age of 24, ambitious but without wealth, he served as the model for Balzac’s character Rastignac in various works of *La Comédie Humaine*.
