WORLD EXHIBITION – EXHIBITOR’S ID CARD IN THE NAME OF Emile LAGRANGE - Business card size, showing a head-and-shoulders photograph facing forwards, bromide print mounted on card, 10.2 x 6.1 cm - On both the front and back, folded in half, exhibitor’s card bearing embossed seals from the “Ministry of Trade and Industry; 1889 World’s Fair; Directorate-General of Finance”: Mr Emile Lagrande is entitled to enter the buildings, parks and gardens of the Exhibition every day and through any entrance… any person who lends their card or who uses a card not belonging to them shall be prosecuted in accordance with the law”. A VERY RARE EXAMPLE of a photograph on a visiting card being used as an OFFICIAL PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY CARD; the first known instance of this type of identity card featuring an exhibitor’s photograph.
