TLEMCEN – ALGERIA – 2nd African Light Cavalry Regiment (cavalry) – PHOTOGRAPHER N. JOUVE & Sons ( * ) - Close-up, full-face view of a soldier standing, in full uniform, with headgear, boots and sabre - Photograph, circa 1880–1890, visiting-card size, 10.5 x 6.5 cm, albumen bromide mounted on card – with an illustrated advertisement for the photographer on the reverse. ( * ) Noël JOUVE, originally from SORGUES in Vaucluse, settled in TLEMCEN around 1880. His studio was on the second floor of the ‘Messageries Tlamcéniennes’ on the Esplanade du Méchouar. He went into partnership with his sons Auguste and Gabriel. His photographs were honoured at the 1889 Paris World’s Fair and at the 1906 Colonial Exhibition in Marseille.
