REUNION ISLAND, French colony – TWO PIONEERING PHOTOGRAPHERS 1860 / 1880. Visite-card-sized portraits, albumen bromides on card, 10.4 x 6.3 cm:
PHOTOGRAPHS by J. LACOMBE; according to the caption, a full-face portrait of the second wife of Mr Jules Gaveau ( * ) and LE CORNEY of Saint Denis, Réunion; a portrait of a young girl standing facing the camera.
( * ) LACOMBE: took over CORENTIN’s studio in 1859. He ran it until 1865.
The reverse of these CDVs features, in the centre, the emblem of Emperor Napoleon III (an imperial eagle in the centre of the crowned imperial mantle, resting on a crossed hand of justice and a sceptre). Inscription: ‘J. Lacombe, photographer, Réunion Island’, with no address.
