GUIZOT ( * ) - THREE PHOTOGRAPHS, circa 1860: three-quarter view seated portrait by Pesme of Paris + 2 photographs by Disderi, ‘photographer to His Majesty the Emperor’, seated facing the camera and standing facing the camera - Three albumin bromide portraits, visiting-card size, mounted on card, approx. 10.5 x 6.4 cm. ( * ) GUIZOT: born in Nîmes on 4 October 1787, died on 12 September 1874 in St Ouen le Pin, Calvados. Historian and statesman. Member of the Académie Française from 1836. Served as a minister on several occasions under the July Monarchy, notably as Minister for Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister in 1847, overthrown by the revolution of 1848. Played an important role in the history of education in France, as Minister of Public Instruction, through the Act of 1833, which called for the establishment of one primary school per municipality and one primary teacher-training college per department.
