( * ) Jules Gabriel Claude FAVRE: born on 21 March 1809 in Lyon, died on 19 January 1880 in Versailles. A brilliant lawyer who opposed the ruling regime, journalist, writer and politician. Vice-President of the Government of National Defence 1870–71 and Minister for Foreign Affairs. Served as a Member of Parliament on numerous occasions: for the Loire 1848–49; for the Rhône: 1849–51 and 1863–69; for the Seine: 1858–63, 1869–70 and 1871–76 – Senator for the Rhône from 1876 to 1880. – Member of the Académie Française from 1871 to 1876.
