Father of Sadi Carnot, who would go on to become President of the Republic. A distinguished career: life senator from 1875 to 1888 – Member of Parliament for Seine-et-Oise from 1871 to 1876 - Seven-time Member of Parliament for the Seine between 1842 and 1869 - Minister for Public Education and Religious Affairs in the provisional government of 1848; in this role, he founded the School of Administration.
