Tournier in Paris – Albumen bromide on card, visiting-card size, 9.5 x 6.1 cm. ( * ) Louis JUCHAULT de la MORICIERE, born on 5 February 1806 in NANTES, died on 11 September 1865 in Plouzel / Somme, Major General and politician. His actions contributed to the colonisation of Algeria; it was he who accepted the surrender of Emir Abb el Kader. He is regarded as the father of the Zouaves. He was elected Member of Parliament for La Sarthe between 1846 and 1851. Appointed Minister of War in 1848. French Ambassador to Russia in 1849. Governor of Algeria 1845–1847.
