( * ) Pierre MAGNE: born on 3 December 1806 in PERIGUEUX, died on 17 February 1879 at the Château de Montaigne, Dordogne. He studied at the lycée in Périgueux, practised as a barrister in Périgueux, and enjoyed a distinguished career in politics: on 18 August 1843, he was first elected as Member of Parliament for the Dordogne. Re-elected in 1851 and again in 1871. In 1847, he became Under-Secretary of State for Finance. In 1851, he was Minister for Public Works; in 1852, Minister for Agriculture, Trade and Public Works; in 1860, Minister without Portfolio; and in 1873, Minister of Finance – Senator 1852–70 and 1876–79 - President of the Dordogne General Council 1852–1870.
