EURE & LOIR – POLITICS – PAUL DESCHANEL ( * ) – PHOTOGRAPH, circa 1915–20, close-up frontal portrait, taken by Truchelut at 17 Rue de Grammont, Paris – Visiting-card size 10.5 x 6.2 cm, albumin bromide mounted on card. ( * ) DESCHANEL: born on 13 February 1855 in SCHAERBEEK, Belgium, following his father’s exile after being banished by Napoleon III; it is worth noting, as an anecdote, that he was the first baby born during the period of exile and that his godfather was Victor HUGO, the most famous of the exiles – died in Paris on 28 April 1922. - Statesman, writer, journalist. President of the French Republic from 18 February to 21 September 1920. Also a Senator from 10 January 1921 to 28 April 1922. Served several terms as a Member of Parliament for Eure-et-Loir between 1885 and 1920. Member of the General Council for the same department, serving various terms between 1895 and 1913.
