Albumen bromide print on card, visiting-card size, 10.5 x 6.3 cm. ( * ) Agénor Bardoux: born in BOURGES on 15 January 1829, died in Paris on 23 November 1897. Writer, politician. Barrister at the Clermont-Ferrand Bar; in 1869, President of the Bar of the Auvergne metropolitan area - Mayor of Clermont-Ferrand 1870–71 – from 1871 to 1895, member of the General Council for the canton of Saint-Amant-Tallende - 1878 to 1883: President of the Puy-de-Dôme General Council - Life Senator 1871–1881 - Minister for Public Education, Religious Affairs and Fine Arts 1877–1879 - Under-Secretary of State for Justice in 1875 - Elected in 1890 following his numerous works to the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. As an aside, Agénor Bardoux was the grandfather of May Bardoux, wife of Giscard d’Estaing, mother of Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, who was himself a Member of Parliament for Puy-de-Dôme between 1956 and 2002, and was elected President of the French Republic from 1974 to 1981.
