NIEVRE / POLITICS - ANDRE DUPIN - Full-length, frontal photograph, signed DISDERI – Albumin print, circa 1865, on visiting-card-sized cardboard, 10.5 x 6.2 cm. ( * ) André Marie Jean Jacques DUPIN, known as ‘Dupin the Elder’, born in VARZY, Nièvre, on 1 February 1783 and died in Paris on 10 November 1865 – Lawyer, Magistrate and Politician: Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, Member of Parliament for Château Chinon in 1815, President of the Chamber in 1832, Minister without portfolio in the July Monarchy, member of the Constituent Assembly in 1848, President of the Legislative Assembly in 1849, and Senator in 1857. Elected to the Académie Française in 1832. A close associate of Louis-Philippe in 1830, Dupin was a key figure in French politics following the fall of Emperor Napoleon. He was the rapporteur for the Charter of 1830.
