LYON / MONTPELLIER / POLITICS – JACQUES LOUIS HENON ( * ) – PHOTOGRAPH, circa 1860, full-face bust portrait, by FRANCK in Paris. Albumen bromide mounted on card, visiting-card size 10.5 x 6 cm. ( * ) J.L. HENON: born on 31 May 1802 in Lyon, son of the Director of the Veterinary School. Died in Montpellier on 28 March 1872 – Physician, botanist, politician – Studied medicine in Montpellier, then returned to La Croix Rousse, Lyon, to care for the poor. Admitted as a member of the Academy of Sciences, Literature and the Arts in 1843 – took part in the events of 1848 as a Republican – during the Second Empire, he was elected Member of Parliament for the Rhône from 1852 to 1869 - In 1868, he helped found the newspaper *L’électeur Libre*, of which he was editor in 1868–69 - Elected mayor of Lyon from 1870 to 1872 - A street and a metro station in the Croix Rousse district are named after him.
