Appointed to the Court of Cassation, then First President of the Paris Court of Appeal - Member of Parliament for Cosne-sur-Loire during the July Monarchy; rallied to Louis Napoleon Bonaparte and entered the Senate (1852 to 1869) – Minister for the Interior (1858–1859), then Minister of Justice (1859–1863).
