( * ) Alexandre DUMAS DAVY de la PAILLETERIE, of mixed Normandy and Creole descent through his father, Army General Thomas Alexandre de la Pailleterie, who enjoyed a distinguished career during the French Revolution. Born on 5 Thermidor, Year X (24 July 1802) in Villers-Cotteret, Aisne; died on 5 December 1870 in Neuville-les-Dieppe. A prolific and successful author of vaudevilles, novels and historical dramas, as well as serialised novels such as *The Three Musketeers*, *The Count of Monte Cristo* and *The Lady of Montsoreau*, etc., etc. - A universal body of work translated more than 2,500 times worldwide, ranking 13th amongst authors translated into foreign languages. His remains were transferred to the Panthéon on 30 November 2002 to mark the bicentenary of his birth.
