PHOTOGRAPH, circa 1850 / 1855, albumen bromide by DISDERI, visiting-card size, mounted on card, 10.5 x 6.2 cm. – close-up frontal view, Empire-style dress. ( * ) Delphine de Girardin: born on 4 Pluviôse, Year XII (25 January 1804) in Aachen and died on 29 June 1855 in Paris – Poet, writer, short-story writer, novelist, playwright, salon hostess and journalist; the best known figure of the Romantic era - Daughter of the famous writer and salon hostess Sophie GAY, a remarkable woman for her wit and literary talents, who published her first poems in *La Muse Française* in 1824. Her first collection, *Les essais poétiques*, earned her a pension granted by Charles X. In 1827, she received a standing ovation in Rome for her play *Le retour des Romains captifs à Alger* – she published numerous works, including successful novels. After her marriage on 1 June 1831, she wrote for *La Presse* under the pseudonyms Charles de Launay and Vicomte de Launay… She exerted considerable influence in the literary circles of her time.
