LITERATURE - AUGUSTE MOQUET ( * ) - PHOTOGRAPHY, circa 1860/1870, full-length frontal portrait, by BERTALI, 33 Rue Boissy d’Anglas, Paris. Albumen bromide mounted on card, visiting-card size 10.5 x 6.4 cm. ( * ) Auguste Moquet: born and died in Paris – 13 September 1813 / 8 January 1888. - Novelist and playwright, best known for his collaboration on most of Alexandre Dumas the Elder’s novels and serialised stories - A brilliant pupil at the Lycée Charlemagne in Paris, where his classmates included Théophile Gautier and Gérard de Nerval. At the age of 18, he became a supply teacher but left his post to devote himself to his literary vocation: highly acclaimed poetry and short stories published in newspapers. He took Dumas to court to reclaim the copyright to the works he had co-authored. He was awarded 145,200 francs but lost the right to have his name associated with the works. He died at his château in Sainte-Mesme, in the Yvelines, which he had acquired, as he cheerfully put it, solely through his writing.
