( * ) Hippolyte Délié: born in MARCENAY, COTE D’OR on 25 May 1841, died in TARBES on 11 February 1899; active in Egypt from 1869 until 1878. He went into partnership with Emile Béchard, establishing a studio called “AU JARDIN de L’ESBEKIEH” – They photographed the streets of the cities and their inhabitants, as well as Egyptian antiquities; they produced studio portraits and marketed their photocard postcards and Egyptology albums to the burgeoning tourism industry.
