BOULOGNE-SUR-MER – PHOTOGRAPHER EBERT ( * ) – TWO PHOTOGRAPHS: a male and a female prawn fisherman – Two close-ups from the front, circa 1895 / 1900 - Two bromide prints mounted on thick card (10.5 x 6.2 cm, Grimaud card) with a signature at the bottom within a reserved area, in gold lettering – The reverse is decorated with a winged cherub triggering a camera, along with details of specialities and branches... against a bluish background. ( * ) ANDREW EBERT: American citizen born in 1848 in New York, died aged 75 in Boulogne-sur-Mer on 15 November 1923 - In 1881, he founded his photographic studio, trading as “PHOTOGRAPHIE AMERICAINE”, at 26 Boulevard Sainte-Beuve in Boulogne - He also opened two other branches run by managers: one in Dunkirk at 1 Rue Faulconnier, and the other in Nice, where he lived at 4 Avenue Masséna. He was living in Nice in 1882 but appears to have given up living there in 1893 after selling his studio to Claudius Couton. He returned to Dunkirk and appears to have continued running his shop in Boulogne, “opposite the Casino”, until 1922.
