( * ) Louis Jacques Cormery: the son of a clog-maker from Beaumont-la-Ronce, he initially worked as a haberdasher in Tours. In November 1879, he was listed as a ‘photography assistant’. In 1881, he was listed in the census at 39 Rue Saint-Étienne, with ‘photographer’ as his occupation. In 1888, he left Tours for Vouvray – before his death in 1912, he was a hat-maker.
