TOURS – DUVAL PHOTOGRAPHY – P. ABEL, SUCCESSOR ( * ) – circa 1885/1890.
A little girl posing astride a stuffed donkey, wearing ankle boots and embroidered clothes.
Bromide mounted on lemon-yellow card with a gilded edge, visiting-card size 10.3 x 6.1 cm.
On the reverse, an illustrated advertisement designed by the cardmaker Hutinet / Paris.
( * ) Philippe ABEL 1838–1924: photographer in Tours between 1884 and 1892. Originally from Castres, Philippe Abel SIGUIER practised his trade under the pseudonym ABEL – Nothing is known of his professional activities during the first part of his life. In April 1877, he was a photographer in Paris. In 1881, he was employed at Ambroise Duval’s studio, who entrusted him with its management and subsequently sold him the business (1884). Abel ran the business there until the end of 1892, when he separated from his wife and moved to Bourges. His wife, Marie Alphonsine Durand, managed the studio in Tours until their divorce in 1902.
