MEDICINE / PHARMACY – ADVERTISING CARD, for requesting samples, from LABORATOIRES CHANTEREAU for SYMPATHYL, ‘the only perfect regulator of the autonomic nervous system’ - SPECIAL ILLUSTRATION by JEAN DROIT (*), a young woman in a beautiful 1900s dress depicted as a mechanical doll, with a key on her back being wound up by a doctor. On the reverse, a postcard to be cut out and ‘scientific’ texts intended for doctors. ( * ) JEAN DROIT: born on 28 August 1884 in LANEUVILLE DEVANT NANCY (54), died on 7 December 1961 in Vincennes – watercolourist, illustrator, writer. His posters and illustrations, published in numerous magazines and luxury books, were universally known and appreciated. He enlisted in 1914, served with distinction during the war and was awarded the Croix de Guerre with palms and the Légion d’honneur - His most famous poster is a self-portrait, depicting him standing (a self-portrait in the rank of Lieutenant) in a trench watching the sun rise over the front line; the poster was created for the appeal for the ‘national loan’. - A patriot, he re-enlisted for the Second World War, with the rank of reserve captain, and was once again awarded the Croix de Guerre.
