Description
MENDJISKY Serge (1929-2017); "Grasse, spleen in autumn". Oil on canvas signed lower right and titled on the back. 50 x 65 cm. Mendjisky initially devoted himself to painting, probably following in the footsteps of the École de Paris, before this evolved into pointillism in 1964, in addition to his growing interest in the art of Van Gogh and Cézanne. Pointillism would be his trademark until the 2000s, when he devoted himself entirely to photography, even though he was already using the medium to make preliminary studies for his canvases. He borrows the collage technique to modify photographic images and articulate his multi-dimensional vision of the world. The multiple perspectives expressed in his collages clearly evoke the analytical phase of Cubism, typical of Picasso.
