Description
An exceptional oval snuff box in 14k gold (585 thousandths), with a solid violet enamelled base, the hinged lid features a wave-pattern cut-out, decorated with a stylised radiating flower in gold and silver, entirely set with rose-cut diamonds in a closed-set mounting. A small tear in the gold, restored on the inside of the lid; slight signs of wear. In its original red leather case, the interior lined with beige velvet. Probably Swiss-made for the Ottoman market, first half of the 19th century (no hallmark visible). H. 3.1 x W. 7.8 x D. 5.3 cm. Gross weight: 122.9 g
