Description
Neo-antique 18K gold (750 parts per thousand) belt buckle, comprising two oval gold medallions depicting the right-facing profile of the young Hercules and the left-facing profile of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, rendered in silver-plated cristallo-ceramics and set against a red carnelian background, held in place by a chiselled gold clasp stylised as a snake. In its original rectangular brown morocco leather case, edged with a frieze of gilded trimmings; the interior is lined with beige velvet and silk. Early 19th century. Probable weevil hallmark. L. 6.5 cm (total). H. 2.7 x L. 2.2 cm (medallions). Gross weight: 12.0 g
