17th century FRENCH school, after Léonard LIMOSIN Portrait of Henri II, King of France (1519-1559), in profile Oak panel, one board, not parqueted Height: 17.3 cm Width: 12.7 cm Ebony frame with bronze appliques bearing the initials of Henri II and Diane de Poitiers (the cherub's head at the bottom right of the frame is missing) Old labels on the reverse of the frame, including a label from the Galerie Georges Petit; label from the Pottier on the reverse "En. Fondation Foch / cz. Jules Strauss / 4.6.36"; a mark in white paint on the reverse on the reverse "C2604" and an old inscription on a label on the reverse of the panel "DeYitt? Provenance : Jules Strauss Collection, Paris avenue Foch in 1936; Sale Jules Strauss Collection, Paris, Palais Galliera, 7 March 1961 (Mes Ader et Rheims), n° 14 (Ecole Francaise); Acquired at this sale by the current owner. The ebony frame with bronze appliques bearing the initials of Henri II and Diane de Poitiers, was exhibited at the the Exposition Internationale du cadre du XVème au XXème siècle, Galerie Georges Petit, April 1931, n° 12.
