Théodore MAILLOT (1826–1888), an academic painter, winner of the Prix de Rome in 1854, and the recipient of public commissions for the Panthéon, at the Hôtel de Salm, at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris (Saint-Marcel Chapel), at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Amiens and at Saint-Louis Cathedral in Versailles. Two pencil studies: ‘Abraham and the Angels’ (study for the painting commissioned upon winning the First Prix de Rome, ‘Abraham Washing the Feet of the Three Angels’) bearing the stamp and signature of the Academy’s delegate, Heim (26.5 x 34.5 cm) and ‘Jesus Driving the Merchants from the Temple’ bearing the seal of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the countersignature of Abel Pujol and the inscription ‘No. 7 Mr Maillot’ (32.5 x 25 cm).
