[39ff. including 7 full-page copper engravings by Picasso, signed in burin on the engraving. Worn slipcase, folder and body in very good condition; not chipped. FIRST EDITION OF 7 COPPER ENGRAVINGS BY PICASSO, hand-engraved on copper in intaglio by Georges Bétemps (engraver of numerous postage stamps). These illustrations are set among 14 poems by Geneviève Laporte (1926-2012), a writer and film-maker who recounted her love affair with Picasso in "Si tard le soir le soleil brille" (Plon, 1973). The drawings he made of her (including L'Odalisque, acquired by the Musée Picasso in Paris) reveal the importance of their relationship, which was initially secret. Picasso considered these drawings to be "love letters"; they are referred to as the artist's "tender period". One of 100 numbered copies on Johannot pur fil. The engravings were scratched after the print run.
