It follows the imprisonment of a young woman living with a tyrannical father in a small provincial town; she ends up killing him before sinking into madness. Alexandre Alexeïeff (1901-1982) was a Franco-Russian illustrator, engraver and animator, best known for inventing the pin screen technique with his partner Claire Parker. This unique method, based on the manipulation of thousands of blackened pins illuminated in chiaroscuro, creates extremely fine animated images akin to etchings or charcoal drawings. He made several experimental short films, including "A Night on Bald Mountain" (1933), considered a major work of avant-garde animation. Provenance : - Roger Braun (nominative): a former notary from Alsace, he was vice-president of the Vieux-Papier, was well known in the world of books and gastronomy, which he honoured doubly, as a guest and as a collector. His collection of menus was by far the largest ever assembled. In memory of her husband, his widow donated them to the Cabinet des Estampes of the BNF in 1941.
