Description
[SURREALISM, PATAPHYSICS] - Temps mêlés. Literary review. Rare collection of this major journal of the Belgian avant-garde, an essential link between surrealism, pataphysics and experimental literature. Verviers, 1952-1956. Set of 11 in-12 issues (165 x 110 mm), stapled (first three stapled), two issues with illustrated covers. Multiple pagination, approx. 26 pages per issue. Small traces of moisture at the top of the covers of the first three issues, otherwise a fine set. Collection of 11 first-edition issues, of which 7 are first editions. The first three issues of the series (n°1, 2 and 3) are here in a limited first edition of only 25 copies on numbered luxury laid paper. Four other issues are also in the first edition, limited to 12 copies (n°17-18, 19, 23), 38 (n°3, including 13 for collaborators) and 63 copies (n°24). A veritable forum for intellectual freedom in the 1950s, this magazine was founded by the painter Jane Graverol and the essayist André Blavier. It featured illustrations by René Magritte (notably for the March 1953 special issue), Aubin Pasque and Wout Hoeboer. It includes contributions from Raymond Queneau, Jean Cocteau, Pierre Mac Orlan, Camille Goemans, René and Paul Magritte, and Pierre David. A fine set, rare in the first edition.
