Extremely rare satirical opuscule of the beginning of the XVIIth century, copy of Pierre Louÿs.
Paris, no mention of publisher, [1627].
Small volume in-8 (170 x 110 mm), Bradel style full unbleached percaline boards, spine decorated with a coral title piece running lengthwise in gilt lettering. Bound in the 19th century.

A few scattered brown spots. Old handwritten note in black ink on the title. Missing a fragment of the title.
An original and unique edition, of great rarity, of this anonymous work. According to the BnF notice, the work was printed in Paris around 1627.
This hilarious tale recounts the colourful adventures of a gentleman from Lorraine, portrayed with biting irony: "as fragrant as a ham, as supple as a monkey, as poised as a Basque, as skilful as a conjurer".
This satirical text, 'stuffed' with calambours and puns, ends with an amusing epitaph in four lines.
Exceptional provenance: library of Pierre Louÿs, with his characteristic signature in red ink on the flyleaf. The copy is listed under no. 1354 in the catalogue of the sale of his library in 1927. An erudite bibliophile, Louÿs was particularly fond of the curious items and rarities of the seventeenth century that fed his imagination.
