Description
DALI (Salvador). Moses and Monotheism.
Embossed silver-plated copper bas-relief (540x680mm), signed in the plate with black ink highlighting, mounted and nailed to a red velvet-covered wooden support with a display device at the back.
This work was designed to serve as the first cover for a book by Freud illustrated by the artist: "Moïse et le Monothéisme" (Paris, Art & Valeurs, 1974). This is a mounted copy.
"Dali was directly inspired by the marble Moses that Michelangelo had executed for the second tomb of Julius II between 1512 and 1516, which is in Rome, in the Church of San Pietro in Vicoli."
