LOUŸS (Pierre) and VERTÈS (Marcel). The Adventures of King Pausole. Seventy-four drypoints by Marcel Vertès. A very fine copy of this edition illustrated with 74 original drypoints by Marcel Vertès, with a suite of copperplates and a suite of 15 rejected plates, in an attractive mosaic binding by Esther Founès, depicting Pausole reigning over the world. Paris, Aux dépens d'un amateur, 1930. Large folio (250x330 mm), blue morocco, smooth spine decorated with the letter "P" in gilt and mosaic in yellow ochre and with Pausole cold-stamped, gilt and mosaic in brown, ochre and red morocco, in a decoration extending in an arc of a circle over the boards, inside framing in the same morocco, yellow moiré silk lining and endpapers, double endpapers, gilt head on witnesses, covers and spine preserved (Esther Founès). 488 pages, 74 drypoints by Vertès in black in and out of the text. Spine slightly faded, tiny white marks on boards. Beautiful edition of the adventures of King Pausole, decorated with 74 original drypoints by Marcel Vertès. Edition strictly limited to 99 copies printed on watermarked Vélin à la forme des papeteries d'Arches, containing the suite of copperplates with remarks and a suite of the 15 plates refused (N°98). Admirable mosaic binding with the effigy of the eponymous character, well established by Esther Founès, a Parisian bookbinder active from the 1920s to 1939.
