Rare first-hand account of the religious violence in Toulouse in 1562. Toulouse, R. Colomiez, 1595. One volume in-12 (145 x 85 mm)? Modest binding in full brown basane, spine ribbed, mute. First French edition of this rare and highly interesting work on the Troubles in Toulouse (1562), during the First War of Religion... The original Latin edition, published in 1563, was condemned to be burnt on 18 June 1563 at Vincennes, because of its slanderous and polemical tone. The author, Georges Bosquet, has probably given us a first-hand account, since, as a lawyer in the Parliament, he was a member of the city authorities. He recounts the dramatic events of April-May 1562 in Toulouse, in particular the riots, massacres and expulsion of the Protestants. A rare work from the presses of the Toulouse printer Colomiez.
