Art edition illustrated by Pierre Brissaud, covered with a splendid mosaic binding with garlands of flowers.

Large volume in-8 (255 x 168 mm). Dark green morocco with rich mosaic decoration. On the boards a beautiful garland forming in the lower part an oval medallion of cold-screened leather with in the centre a rose in full bloom in old pink morocco, surrounded by bright red rosebuds and green morocco leaves. The sinuous brown listel garland runs along the spines, punctuated by flowers and foliage & gilded dotted lines simulating flashes of light. Spine and endpapers decorated in the same style. Witnessed gilt edges. Double slipcase in half-maroquin with long corners, covers, edged case.
Binding signed Et. Jean.

Very fine edition decorated with beautiful compositions by the fashion illustrator and painter Pierre Brissaud, 10 original colour etchings engraved in register, including a frontispiece, 8 hors-texte under a red captioned serpente and a chapter-head, and a black engraving on the first cover.
Limited edition of 580 copies, this being one of 450 on Rives vellum (n°554).
Under the pseudonym of Petit Pierre, Anatole France recounts his teenage years and student days.
