They show corals, stones, shells, seashells, plants, fossils, a view of Mount Etna and an astonishing representation of petrified fish teeth called Glossopetres & found on the Isle of Malthe. The work is written in the form of letters to fellow European naturalists. The author, Paolo Boccone, a Sicilian botanist and naturalist, was the official botanist of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, to whom the work is dedicated.
