A remarkable copy of this walk through Normandy illustrated from life by Auguste Lepère, in a superb binding by Émile Carayon, decorated with beautiful modelled and chiselled leather by the illustrator.

Large in-8 (180x250 mm), green morocco, spine decorated with cold-stamped fillets and title, large plate of chased leather tinted in various colours on a brown background, depicting flowering and leafy tree branches revealing a panel bearing the title of the work with cows grazing and the silhouette of a small village in the background, wide inner band of the same morocco set with multiple gilt frames and the signature "E. Cararyon", green moiré silk lining and endpapers, double endpapers, gilt edges, covers preserved (E. Carayon).
XII and 148 pages, 47 etchings, drawn and engraved after nature, 31 wood-engraved lettering and typographical ornaments by Auguste Lepère.

A charming stroll through Normandy by Joseph L'Hopital, illustrated with 47 etchings and 31 wood-engraved ornaments by Auguste Lepère (1849-1918), showing luminous scenes, always animated with characters, poetically evoking Le Neubourg, Port-en-Bessin, the Saint-Nicolas fair, Montebourg, Saint-Floxel and Saint-Romain.
One of the finest illustrated books by the painter and engraver Auguste Lepère, an excellent aquafortist who made a major contribution to the revival of wood engraving.
Limited edition of 140 copies on Arches vellum, all initialled by the publisher (N°115).
From the libraries of Carl J. Ulmann and Cornelius J. Hauck, with their bookplates on the double endpapers. A handwritten note by Carl J. Ulmann on the flyleaf states in English: "The French bookbinder M. Pilon affirms that the design on leather is also by Lepère."
A very fine copy in a binding by Emile Carayon, inlaid with charming modelled and chased leather by Auguste Lepère.
