Beautiful edition of the Bible given by Laurent-Etienne Rondet, sought after for its 41 folding plates showing maps, plans and views. Published in Paris by Boudet and Desaint and in Avignon by Merande, 1767-1773. 17 vol. in-4, full brown marbled calf, spine ribbed with gilt frieze, double gilt border and gilt fleurons to the entrenerfs, gilt title on burgundy leather, double gold fillet to the edges, red edges. Contemporary binding. Approximately 800 pages per volume, 28 plates and 13 folding maps engraved hors-texte, headbands, lettering and endpapers. Text in French and Latin. Bindings rubbed, some headpieces faded or missing, some light spotting and wormholes. Some rare foxing and spotting in some volumes. Expanded second edition of the "Holy Bible" by Laurent-Etienne Rondet (1715-1785), in the Port-Royal translation mainly by Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy, a much sought-after edition for its illustration consisting of 41 fold-out plates showing maps, plans and views (collated complete). "This book, known as the Bible de Vence, but which should rather bear the name of Rondet, its publisher, is highly esteemed; it contains the translation and commentary of P. de Carrières, the prefaces and dissertations of D. Calmet, revised, corrected and sometimes augmented. The commentary alone is abridged and reduced to short notes". [Brunet, I, 888]. Complete sum in 17 volumes. Ex-bibliotheca "Congr. SS.
