The fables of La Fontaine, published in the very prestigious collection known as d'Artois, perfectly set in two charming volumes bound in full green morocco by Trautz-Bauzonnet. Paris, De l'imprimerie de Didot l'aîné, M. DCC. LXXXI [1781]. Two volumes In-16 (134 x 82 mm), full green morocco, boards decorated with fillets and fleurons at the corners in the style of Du Seuil, five-ribbed spine, decorated with boxes trimmed with fleurons in small gilt irons, double fillet on the edges, inner lace, edges gilt on marbling. Bindings signed Trautz-Bauzonnet. 251pp. and 294pp. In volume 1, discreet angular spotting on the first 15 leaves. In volume 2, slight wetness on the edges of the 20 first and 20 last leaves. Rare edition published in the prestigious d'Artois collection, printed by François-Ambroise Didot by order of Charles-Philippe comte d'Artois, brother of Louis XVI and future Charles X. This collection is renowned for the quality of its printing, paper and typography, making it a true masterpiece of typographic art. "M. le comte d'Artois had [...] shown his taste for letters by having the collection [...] that bears his name made at his own expense. [...] It was difficult for typography to produce anything more attractive than these [...] small volumes, which will always be ranked among Didot's masterpieces" (Brunet). According to Brunet, the total print run did not exceed 100 copies. A superb fresh and clean copy bound by Trautz-Bauzonnet.
