A fine 18th century book of plates devoted to the history of France, a copy enriched with 5 plates, from the collection of the bibliophile and print enthusiast André Barrier.
Paris, Prevost, 1767.
Volume in-folio (320 x 250 mm), half calf glazed and marbled with corners, spine ribbed and decorated with a mosaic of red morocco (binding signed Stroobants).

Minor foxing and a few traces of pencil notes.
First edition of this collection of vignettes composed by Charles-Nicolas Cochin and partly engraved by himself.
The work includes an engraved title and 40 superb vignettes on 34 plates. Copy enriched with 5 additional vignettes, including an allegory "La santé rend à la France un monarque victorieux" (Louis XV, 1744) and "Louis XV arme Mgr le Dauphin au camp de Fontenay" (1745).

Provenance: from the library of André Barrier (Paris, 1870-1957), with his bookplate (woodcut by Dété) on the first flyleaf, accompanied by that of Marcelle Léonardin (woodcut by Dété).
André Barrier, president of the Paris Court of Appeal and a great bibliophile, was a collector of prints and president of the Cent Bibliophiles.
A fine copy, fresh and clean, in a fine binding by Stroobants.
