BENOIT (Pierre). Kœnigsmark. A very fine paperback copy of this sought-after first edition, with a L.A.S. about the Prix Goncourt. Paris, Émile-Paul frères, 1918. In-12 (185x120mm), paperback. 301pp. Rare first edition for which no large papers were printed. Enclosed: an important L.A.S. from the author on a blue recto-verso flyleaf, addressed to "[his] dear Master", mentioning in particular Pierre Mac Orlan, "Kœnigsmark which is printed in Évreux, which arrives, but with what difficulties!"Benoit says that he will soon receive the first copies, that he will send the SPs to the Académie Goncourt, and asks for a meeting with Léon Hennique, etc. (The book was indeed selected by the Académie Goncourt in 1918 for the prize, but was beaten by Duhamel's "Civilisation" in the final vote by four votes to six).
