A fine copy on Hollande of the first illustrated edition, decorated with 10 charming colour compositions by Carlos Schwabe including 1 frontispiece in 4 states, in an attractive binding by Marion Blin. Paris, Le Livre Contemporain, 1908. Large bradel in-8 (190x250 mm), black morocco, smooth spine decorated with gilt lettering, arabesques stamped in black on grey-green card pasted on the boards, gilt head on witnesses, covers and spine preserved, lined slipcase (M. Blin). 141 pages, 10 off-text plates by Carlos Schwabe, wood-engraved in two shades of red by Beltran, including a frontispiece in 4 states and numerous frames and end-papers with floral decoration in two shades of grey. First illustrated edition of this collection by Albert Samain, decorated with 10 compositions by Carlos Schwabe (1866-1926), wood-engraved in colour by the Beltrand brothers, including a frontispiece in 4 states, and numerous floral frames and end-pieces. Limited edition of 120 numbered copies on Hollande, this one No. 97, including 3 rejected states of the frontispiece. Enclosed is an autograph manuscript extracted from page 186 of the book "Carlos Schwabe, symboliste et visionnaire" by Jean-David Lafond-Jumeau, describing the edition as: "One of the busiest books of the time, it took five years of work to woodcut the decoration and plates of what remains one of the most ambitious bibliophilic undertakings of the period". A pleasant copy in perfect condition.
