Description
[MANUSCRIT]. Band of the regiment of H.S.H. the Prince de Condé. Precious manuscript collection of the principal musics, marches and airs for the use of the Prince de Condé's regiment. In-8 square (163x190mm), 23ff, bound in full red morocco, boards framed with a large gilt frieze with roulette, the upper stamped in the centre "Régiment de S.A.S. M.G. le Prince de Condé", smooth spine with false ribbing and gilt fleurons, new endpapers. The 23ff. of the collection are mounted on mitre, the first 4 as well as the last one present restorations in the interior margin. It should be noted that the book of leaves is detached from the binding; the cause is to be found in the poor quality of the wood pulp paper endpapers, probably early 20th century. Interesting collection of manuscripts written in bistre ink on "Pro Patria" watermarked laid paper (widely known as "à la palissade", origin: Holland; used from the 17th to the end of the 18th century). A quick examination reveals 64 pieces, listed either by the name of their musical form (waltz, march, contredanse) or by a proper name or the name of the tune to which they refer: "À vous dirais-je maman", "La Polimnie", "La Bonaparte", "Les deux mouchards", etc.
