Description
[MANUSCRIT - FASHION] - LEBEAU ( Marthe). Theory of the sewing piece. Interesting manuscript composed of technical explanations, illustrated with numerous original textile samples. Circa 1900. Volume in folio (350 x 270 mm), paperback, in cover. 1f. blank, 9 handwritten ff. followed by 6 blank ff. 11 serpents. Cover badly damaged, boards loose with missing fragments. Some edgewear. Missing 3 serpents. Remarkable testimony to the teaching of haute couture at the turn of the century. This "Cours moyen" book, carefully written by Marthe Lebeau, details the methods for making a skirt and bodice according to the standards of the time. The page layout is meticulous, in black ink under framed fillets, and the set is enhanced by ten original textile samples. These assembled pieces illustrate the technical nature of Belle Époque clothing: stapled fastenings for bodices, ruffles, scaled bands and sliding techniques. More than just a student's notebook, this manuscript is a valuable technical archive of textile know-how from around 1900. Overall good condition.
