It was condemned to be suppressed by decision of the Council on 19 December 1779 and sentenced to fire by decision of the Parliament of Paris on 25 May 1781. An emblematic book of the Enlightenment, presented as a history of international trade, the work is above all a violent slam against European colonialism and its arrogance, slavery and the enslavement of peoples, and against the Church, which lends its support to European hypocrisy.
