In beautiful anonymous 17th-century calligraphy, this manuscript is a copy of the many dispatches sent by Mazarin during his stay in the Basque country to negotiate the Treaty of the Pyrenees, which led to peace between France and Spain and the marriage of Louis XIV to the Infanta of Spain. The set runs from 2 July, the day of his departure for the south, to 12 November 1659, compiling letters addressed to the ministers Le Tellier and de Lionne as well as to the Queen.
A fine work from the Phillipps collection (ms. 8243) in a period binding.
