Mention of "quastrième édition"; the first edition appeared in French in 1645 in Caen with Jean Cavelier, under the title "Histoire poétique, pour l'intelligence des Poëtes et des Auteurs Anciens", then in 1750, in Latin, in Liège with the Veuve Hovius, under the title "Historia poetica ad faciliorem poetarum et veterum auctorum intelligentiam". The title was reprinted many times throughout Europe until 1976. It was a school work, intended to give pupils in Jesuit schools throughout Europe a kind of methodical description of the gods of Latin mythology. It was written by Pierre Gautruche (1602-1681), a priest of the Society of Jesus, who taught humanities, philosophy, theology and especially mathematics, in which he made remarkable progress for his century.
