[FOUJITA]. BOISSIÈRE (Jules) (1863-1897). Words of an Intoxicated Man. Watercolours by Foujita. In 1929, Foujita illustrated the Indochinese and opiate world of Jules Boissière, one of his most accomplished bibliophilic works. Paris, Javal & Bourdeaux, 1928. In-4 volume (282 x 222 mm). In sheets, original printed cover. Suites in crystal paper and printed cover. 240 pages, 16 plates, 6 suites. Small tear to spine of book cover with central crease to front cover. The cover of the suites is badly damaged and badly missing. Without the publisher's slipcase. 16 hors texte plates engraved by Gaston Prost after Tsuguharu Foujita and coloured by stencil. Limited edition of 97 numbered copies. This is one of the 22 copies of the first edition on old Japon, comprising seven states. Our copy is numbered 16 and includes the definitive state in the book and 6 states (suites), including 3 in colour (on Japon impérial, on Japon impérial with remarque and a composite on Annam or Vélin), and three in lithographic line. One colour suite is missing. (Carteret Illustrés IV, 77). A good copy of this emblematic work by Foujita.
