Revu corrigé et augmenté avec la division de la France en Départemens par le citoyen Lamarche [...]. A fine 18th century atlas for school use, complete with 53 double maps engraved by E. Dussy and enhanced in colour. Paris, Lamarche, Year III of the Republic (1794-1795). In-4 (240x310mm), brown marbled basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt irons, gilt title on red leather, cold guilloche edges. Contemporary binding. 9 pages of engraved text including 1 title framed and adorned with a beautiful vignette by Barrière, 4 folding tables (670x500mm) adorned with engraved vignettes and 53 double maps (including one 47 bis) with coloured highlights, all mounted on tabs. Fragile seams on first board, tail cap missing, one jaw split over 6 cm at foot, slight spotting on boards, corners damaged (two restored), some foxing in margins and on backs of maps. Magnificent atlas of 53 double maps engraved by E. Dussy, with coloured borders and beautiful cartouches engraved by Arrivet, including a world map and two planispheres, and a large folding map of France and its departments. The maps are numbered by hand from 1 to 52. At the beginning of the book are geographical tables for each continent studied (Europe, Asia, Africa, America), each decorated with attractive engraved vignettes briefly describing the geography and history of the continent, its seas, oceans, islands, straits, lakes, mountains, regions, etc. Ex-libris "Demailly" in pen on the title. Embellished with a maple leaf. A very fresh copy, complete with maps in fine condition.
